Unique to their industry, ECCO make leather at their own tanneries
and produce shoes in their own factories.
Their global family of employees, representing over 50 nationalities,
is the life force behind their products.
ECCO Milestones
Karl Toosbuy – the founder of ECCO – had a dream.
He wanted to own a shoe factory and run his own business.
Trained from an early age as a shoemaker, he gradually rose
through the ranks and by his early 30’s was managing a shoe
factory in Copenhagen.
1963
Birte and Karl Toosbuy’s dream to create a shoe company driven by Danish Design and the philosophy of form follows function.
1998
Established factories in more than 3 countries, including Indonesia, Thailand and Portugal.
1970
ECCO’s designer Ejnar Truelsen created the “JOKE”, followed by a series of other revolutionary shoes, some of which are still in production.
2017
A third generation member of the family joined the Supervisory Board, with factories and tanneries in 6 countries around the world.
